Rough cedar is naturally rot-resistant, weathers Colorado's climate beautifully, and ages gracefully over time. Left untreated, it silvers out naturally — think of a 100-year-old cedar barn. That's not a flaw, that's character. We do recommend finishing with a solid stain rather than a transparent one. You won't have to reapply it as often, and it helps prevent cracking over the years.

The hardware matters more than most people realize. We use:
- Exposed post bases designed to be visible and structurally sound above decking
- Timber bolts to properly connect the wood at the top frame joints
- Hot-dipped galvanized post-to-beam connectors for long-term corrosion resistance in Colorado's climate
Beyond the hardware, we make sure the pergola integrates cleanly with your existing railing system. We've seen pergolas that look bolted-on as an afterthought — we don't build those. Everything is designed to look intentional, like it was always part of the plan.
